The First Annual Troutsmen Street Hockey Tournament went down in Whistler on a drizzling but fun Saturday May 29.
In all, 16 teams hailing form Squamish, Whistler, Pemby, Mount Currie and the Czech Republic fought it out in the round robin tournament for a chance to play for hte Dumbo Cup. The Farm Team, Captianed by Mountain Life editor Feet Banks, went 3-0 in the round Robin but lost in a sudden death shootout in the first round of the playoffs to Jeff Cockle and the boys from Tommy’s.
Tommys then advanced to the finals and was smashed by Mike Borelli and the impressively cohesive team from Moe Joes, who wonthe Championship.
The rain didn’t dampen the fun and this was one of the best events to be held in Whistler since the Hot Dog Party (admittedly that was only 6 weeks ago but still). The Troutsmen International Club of Leisure deserves a huge shout-out for hosting and organizing the event and while the level of competition was high there was also a lot of fun to be had. The Girls from the Bass Coast Festival proved once and for all that there are not enough fishnets in Hockey.
