National Aboriginal Day is June 21, Get cookin’.

Monday June 21 is National Aboriginal Day and the folks at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre are celebrating with storytelling and Bannock.

Bannock is really awesome considering the ingredients are the same as for paper mache

Bannock, also known as frybread, is a staple Aboriginal food over the entire North American Continent. It’s made with just flour, water and baking soda but unless you have been shown by a native cook, you will never make it properly. Luckily, the Cultural centre is offering Bannock Bakers Sessions on Monday June 21 at 11 am and 2 pm, followed by storytelling at 3pm.

Anytime is a good time to check out the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre and learn about local First Nations but you cannot miss the bannock baking sessions.

go to the official Cultural Centre website for more info.
