The Living Oceans Society has announced their 2011 Oceans Exposure photo competition and are welcoming photos that fall into either of their official categories – Working on the Ocean or Ocean Ecosystems. You’ve got until the end of September to submit and the photos must have been shot on the Pacific ocean anywhere between Mexico and Alaska. Start shooting, and check out the rules here.

From salmon farming to oil tankers to sustainable seafood Living Oceans Society is a BC-based organization that works towards preserving our ocean so it is healthy and abundant with sea life while managed sustainably to support coastal communities.

They are a great organization and you should check out their site.

Also, i’m making it a goal this summer to try and pick up at least one piece of garbage every time i hit the beach this summer. If you want to learn more about the damage plastic is doing to our oceans check out this feature length documentary from VBS.TV, Garbage Island. This is pretty gnarly.
