This is one of the best action sports images I’ve seen in a while. Shot by Finnish snowbo shooter Tero Repo last year on the 50-degree Copt Couloir on the Massif du Mont Blanc, this photograph dials in and spits out the crazy lengths that Europeans will go to ride when there was basically no snow in the Alps last year.
Famed French rider and three-time World Freeride Champion Xavier de La Rue has undoubtedly one of the coolest heads out there, as it takes some serious commitment, massive huevos and big time risk to run this icy gauntlet. In this vid XDLR talks us through the pre-flight details on this gnarly ice-drop, and shows us his other incredible big-mountain descents that feature a mix of ice-riding, rappelling and shitting his pants hanging off of one-ice screw with only one axe.
At the end of the film, he sums things up with one simple quote.
“In the mountains the risks are endless…like it’s just so heavy — but it’s so good at the same time.”
