Travis Rice takes Red Bull Supernatural

This past Saturday, 18 of the world’s most progressive riders arrived at Nelson’s Baldface Lodge for the run of their lives. At the top of a 45-degree run called “Scary Cherry” they stared down an incredible array of man-made booters, hits and treetop landing pads (or launching pads). Even amidst some controversy, Supernatural will indeed go into the books as one of the biggest, baddest snowboarding events in history.

Travis Rice was crowned champion with a near flawless run and score of 91. “We’re walking away with a different state of mind,” says Rice. “This was an experiment and it’s the beginning of a new possible future for snowboarding.”

The brainchild of snowboarding icon Travis Rice, Red Bull Supernatural is a first-of-its-kind backcountry competition designed to challenge, then crown the best all-around snowboarder on the planet. The event brings together today’s best video part stars alongside the kings of the contest circuit for a one-day freestyle competition. With three distinct sections of the course designed to both show off each athlete’s strength and various disciplines of the sport, Red Bull Supernatural aims to serve-up a run beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.
