STAND – a SUP adventure through the Great Bear Rainforest from b4apres media on Vimeo.

In the Summer 2012 Airtime issue Mountain Life contributor Nicolas Teichrob traveled up into the Great Bear Rainforest on BC’s North Coast to spend some time with the Gitga’at Nation and examine the coastline at risk from the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline and the supertankers that would suddenly be navigating some of the most treacherous waters on our coast.

Nic was also working on Stand, a film that follows Stand Up paddleboarder Norm Hann as he paddles both the proposed tanker route and the East coast of Haida Gwaii to show what is truly at risk if one of those supertankers should ever spill some oil. Check out the Stand website for more info.

For more information on the risks of supertankers traveling the waters of BC’s north adn central coast check out this article on the risks tankers pose according to Master Mariner Mal Walsh, who has over 4o years in the oil exploration and shipping industry. This is really interesting reading courtesy of the Vancouver Observer.
