Whistler’s talent pool runs pretty deep, and especially so for sons of fathers who have been in Whistler for 20+ years. This is Whistler’s new generation of rippers and riders —
kids that have been born to do these sports we all hold so sacred in this place, and do them damn well. Like the 9-year-old Finn Finestone featured in ‘Growing Up Whistler’, who, along with another born-and-bred Whistler kid Ian Morrison shows us what fun on a bike is all about.
Finn’s dad Brian is the Whistler Bike Park Manager, so it’s safe to say he’s been up on the hill once or twice.
“The kid’s already riding A-Line, and he’s 9!” says Ian Morrison, a big player for Team Evolution Whistler, son of Mountain Life contributing photographer Paul Morrison, and no slouch when it comes to riding his own bike. “I didn’t get on A-Line until i was 14, and he’s riding it a lot better than I did when I first rode it, and with some pretty incredible style.”
While Whistler provides some truly exceptional facilities, like the pump track, the skatepark and the foam pit to hone one’s bike skills — it all boils down to a passion for riding that makes young ahtletes like Finn rise to the top.
“I was shocked to see how well he’s riding,” says Morrison. “He’s suprisningly good and a lot of fun to ride with, he truly just loves to ride.”
